Event Rules

Portsmouth is  the home of this event with registration and the event hub being hosted at one of the area top marinas, with easy access to bars, restaurants, and boat yard facilities.

​

The prolific fishing grounds around the Isle of Whyte and The Solent will be the competition event stage,  for a catch, photograph, and release competition. Bringing together young and old in an event which importantly incorporates the get fishing scheme with the Angling Trust staging ‘Get Fishing’ taster experiences with local angling clubs to be run as educational workshops.

Working with local Sea Angling clubs to introduce the next generation of Anglers and Members

Working with local Marine Training companies to promote safety at Sea for boat owners offering the chance to complete RYA courses ahead of the event for those that would like to learn more about boat handling or COLREG - Preventing collisions at sea can speak to the RYA instructors, and book courses.

CONDITION OF ENTRY
​

For Safety onboard and to aid when taking photo and records a minimum of 2 participants per boat is required. The maximum number per boat will be subject to the boats size with a maximum set at 4.

​

The competition is open to anglers over 10 years old before the time of the event start

Participants under 18 years of age will not be able to a skipper of a boat unless they possess a Power Boat 2 RYA certificate as a minimum an provide evidence of insurance in their name.

​

The competition is a catch, measure, record,  photograph & release competition.

​

A valid VHF licence must be held by either the captain or member of the crew

All anglers participating in the event must agree to the rules of the event and terms and conditions  

EVENT DETAILS IN BRIEF

 

Only persons that have entered the competition are permitted to be on board any competing boat during the hours of the competition with the exception of organisers film crew or marshals approved media or in the case of disabled anglers approved helpers.

Minimum Boat length 17ft or 5.2m


Maximum of 4 Rods per Boat set up with terminal tackle (spare rods with reels attached must be stored with no terminal tackle).


Maximum of 3 hooks per rod triple hooks count as 1 hook

 

  • Rod and line, catch, photograph, and release event

  • 1 spare rod may be set up on board but without any terminal tackle

  • Bait and artificial lures may be used

  • The points from day 1 and day 2 are added together to identify the overall winner.

  • Minimum legal length and above to count
